A Brain & MRA (intracranial & ICA) MRI is used to screen for the risk of stroke. Stroke, or cerebrovascular disease, is the 4th leading cause of death in Hong Kong, leading to approximately 3,000 deaths annually, and is one of the leading causes of death in China alongside heart disease and cancer. Hypertension is one of the most important risk factors for stroke with lifestyle and diet being a major contributor. For example, medical research has noted that the incidence of stroke in northern China is greater than in the south, which is attributed to dietary and lifestyle differences. Globally, on average, someone dies from a stroke every six seconds.
