Creatinine levels are used to determine kidney or renal function. Creatinine is a waste product produced by the body resulting primarily from muscle metabolism. A blood test will measure the level of creatinine in your blood stream. Healthy kidneys filter creatinine (and other waste products) from your blood and the waste is excreted from the body in urine. High levels of creatinine found in the bloodstream is an indication that one may be suffering from kidney disease or dysfunction.
