Blood tests for liver function are used in monitoring the general state of health of the liver. Tests on liver function evaluate the levels of certain enzymes and proteins in your blood. Levels outside of healthy parameters can indicate liver problems. Patients with liver issues may have few, if any, physical symptoms.
Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP) is an enzyme in the liver as well as bile ducts and bone. An ALP test can help to identify how well your liver - and also gall bladder - are functioning. High levels of ALP found in the bloodstream may indicate the following: liver damage or issues; a blocked bile duct; or potentially certain bone diseases.
