There are a variety of tests which can help understand one’s heart or cardiac health. Depending on the health check plan, testing may include resting or exercise ECG and / or blood tests to measure for signs or risk of cardiovascular disease.
Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) is an enzyme that assists the process of converting sugar into energy for cells to use. LDH is present in all cells of the body with highest concentrations in the heart, liver, pancreas, kidneys, skeletal muscle, lungs, brain and blood cells. When illness or injury damages your cells, LDH may be released into the bloodstream, causing the level of LDH in your blood to rise. We include the LDH test in our health checks as part of our heart / cardiac screening.
